Episode 8 - Maja and the Pangolin (Congo)

The decline of the pangolin is staggering. Virtually exterminated from all over Asia, it still survives in Africa. Maja Gudehus wants to believe in another future for the pangolin. She joined forces with the Aka pygmies in the great forest of the Congo to save it.

Lorane is a young scientist dedicated to building shelters in the Franco-Swiss mountains for orphaned baby lynx, one of Europe’s last great feline species and predators. Lynx are critical to the preservation and growth of Europe's habitats.

The Kakapo, or owl parrot, is a large flightless bird found on two New Zealand islands: Codfish and Anchor Island. Deidre Vercoe is responsible for running a conservation scheme which monitors each one of the remaining birds to keep them safe and to breed.

A formidable mother-daughter team based in Uzbekistan devoting their lives to saving the saiga, a critically endangered antelope with a distinctive bulbous nose. In 2015 an epidemic wiped out half of the remaining population, killing over 200,000 animals in a few days.

Uncommon and hardly known, today the Dugong is the most threatened sea mammal on the planet. The species can only be found in certain parts of the Indian Ocean and in the western regions of the Pacific.
