It's funny watching the elements come together in this complicated scam. On one hand, the set-up isn't quite as complex as it seems, but there's an easy sense of fun in every exchange.

The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

RABID GRANNIES is a very low budget gross-out comedy from Belgium, unless you happen to watch the American version put out by Troma, in which case it's merely a comedy as all of the gore has been excised, weirdly, from their version. The story is set in one of those old dark houses where a couple of grannies receive a cursed present and transform into demons which then proceed to slaughter the assembled relatives. As a film it feels a little like Peter Jackson's BRAINDEAD albeit not as good, but without the rubbery gore effects this is merely incoherent nonsense, and completely pointless to watch.

I should have researched this movie on here before I watched it.Knowing it was French would have helped a lot.I spent too much time trying to figure out if the audio was dubbed and where it was filmed.Once I figured out it was dubbed, I understood why every character had a different accent. Most of the people sound like Americans trying to fake a British accent while a few sound almost French. The most confusing thing was that they were driving on the right side of the road.Do they do that in France?I assumed all of Europe would drive on the left side.Anyway, this was an above average Troma movie even though the plot doesn't make any sense. The premise is that a bunch of relatives of two rich old ladies have to go have dinner with them for reasons that are never made clear. The old ladies turn into demons and everyone just hides instead of trying to leave. This is a must see if you like or want to like Troma.

The idea of this flick is hilarious. Just hearing about it made me laugh. I finally obtained a copy of this film and immediately sat down and gave it a watch. The film takes place at a family gathering. Its two grannies birthday party and everyone is pretending to be excited to be there. When it comes time to open the presents the grannies come across a gift that isn't from anyone in the family. The present releases a demonic smoke possessing the two old ladies. Now they have super strange and are hungry for human flesh!Overall the film has some good parts. It kind of reminded me of Peter Jackson's Bad Taste, but at times I found myself getting bored. The film has some great scenes and will definitely make you laugh, especially the demonic granny hanging from the chandelier, but over all I found the majority of the film kind of slow. I was waiting for the next gore scene to pop up but during that time I found myself dazing off.Its a great film to own for the novelty of it, but don't expect much from it.

When I read the title and saw the cover of the video box for this horror film I did not expect a sophisticated shocker. After taking the movie home I was however pleasantly surprised by it's humor and cheesy camp-factor. Those elements, along with the schlocky gore made the film entertaining. A family reunion hosted by two elderly, maiden sisters turns into a blood-fest. The hostesses are possessed by demons unleashed on them by an evil, vindictive and absent relative who sent them the evil spirits in the guise of a birthday gift. Upon opening their unassuming present at the dinner table in the company of their guests (family, friends and associates), the spinsters are transformed into flesh-eating fiends. Here's where the movie takes off and takes off it does! After the first victim is killed while seated at the table the rest of the guests flee for their lives in a spontaneous and morbid game of hide-and-seek. They scatter in all directions hiding from the blood-thirsty matrons while searching for escape from the locked-down manor they're trapped in. Here is where the film provides suspense as we feel the victims' claustrophobic tension. The deaths, which are grisly and at times humorous are still effective. While the plot is predictable the film does hold some surprises. For example the movie contains some typical characters found in horror films but the twist is the fact that some of these "typical" characters who are usually spared in most horror films (simply for moral reasons) are killed here. If you're a fan of the horror genre you will appreciate this mixture of (unintentional?)humor, gore and scares.
