All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

There are, to be sure, more than a few reasons to dislike this movie. It's cheesy as all get-up, as sappy as maple syrup, and the final scene is so unbelievable as to be laughable. Yet, at least for me, "Fever Pitch" works because of one factor: the ability to describe the life of a baseball die- hard. For a basic plot summary, this movie tells the love story of Ben (Jimmy Fallon) and Lindsey (Drew Barrymore). Ben, a school teacher with a Boston Red Sox obsession and Lindsey, a confident career-woman, play off each other's personas in typical rom-com format.Had this movie not dealt with baseball, I probably wouldn't have had anything to do with it. At its core, it is true rom-com through and through. However, being a huge baseball fan, I could really relate to Fallon's character. The entire film really nails baseball fanaticism. Whether it is Ben getting down on one knee to reveal...a ticket to Opening Day, or charting out pitching schedules to make sure he never misses Pedro Martinez, Fallon's antics are very relatable to the hardball diehards. Over the top, yes, but springing from a kernel of real sports fanaticism.Another "luck" factor to this movie is that it follows the 2004 Boston Red Sox, perhaps the most endearing baseball team so far this millennium. Every baseball fan (from the Bronx to the Bay) remembers that fantastic run, so this movie (by sheer luck) re-captures that magic every time it is played.Overall, "Fever Pitch" is a traditional romantic comedy that just happens to be something more for fans of the'04 Red Sox or baseball fanatics in general. It isn't perfect, but it is quite entertaining and will get watched more than once a year if in your collection.

A US version of 'Fever Pitch' - originally a novel then a film about Arsenal's Football Double Season. Colin Firth did himself no favours in the UK version which was laboured and neither drama nor comedy - probably because soccer fans in UK are so one dimensional. But the US version about the Boston Red Sox's winning season, scores heavily as a rom com, and a sporting insight movie. There are some really good gags about male fan sporting behaviour and a decent look at what women really want - well, the Hollywood version of it anyway. Good acting, crisp direction and writing, and excellent use of locations give this movie a very surprising quality - way, way above the rubbish turned out by Farrell, Carell, Rogen, Wilson and Stiller!!!

Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore star in Fever Pitch. Which isn't a great movie but was a good one. To think that The Farrelly Brothers actually directed this movie. It doesn't seem like something that they would actually direct. It isn't their best movie, but it is a decent comedy with two convincing and good performances. Fallon stars as a teacher who is obsessed with the Red Sox. Barrymore plays a woman who starts dating him and eventually finds out that he is a freak about them. Even knowing how big of a freak they are, she still dates him anyways. She is taken to almost every game. She soon is kind of heartbroken to the extremes that he goes to. Fever pitch has it's funny moments. It's the Farrelly brothers what do you expect? What you don't expect is so much romance. But that is what I liked about this movie. This movie was something different for everyone. I like both actors, they are both convincing, and I have to give this movie a thumbs up.Fever Pitch:***/****

I am reviewing this movie from a movie point of view instead of a sports point of view even though I will mention a few sports related topics. From a movie view, this is a great, family-fun movie with several important themes added in.This film is about a die-hard Red Sox fan who falls in love with a workaholic and they begin to date. Their relationship is fine to start off but as things get sweeter, the addiction to the Red Sox team has begun to tear them apart inch by inch. The acting is pretty good. Drew Barrymore did a great job. Jimmy Fallon did a decent job, not as well as I expected. There are some good songs in this comedy. These songs include "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond. This movie brought back some unpleasant memories for me. When the Yankees were ahead 3 games to nothing, I thought that the Yankees would be in another World Series, but the Red Sox won the next four games to advance to the World Series. That still haunts me to this day.Sports fan or not, this is a good movie to watch with a date or family. It has some decent laughs. I rate this movie 8/10.
