A Newsreel History of the Third Reich: Vol. 7
5.51
This series, 'A Newsreel History of the Third Reich', includes unique footage plundered by Russian Troops in 1945. Compiled as it is from German newsreels which were made under the influence of Goebbels' Ministry of Propaganda, these are by no means accurate histories but allow unique insight into how the period leading up to and including WW2 was presented to the German people. Volume 7 deals with the third part of the year 1941. It covers events on all the German fronts including: Western Front - destroyers and torpedo boats escort German convoys in the English Channel; African Front - Rommel decorates his soldiers; Eastern Front - the battle for Roslaw; Home Front - Hitler & Mussolini inspect the front line troops, Belgian & Danish volunteers are sworn in at Hamburg.

Dance for a Chicken: The Cajun Mardi Gras
5.51
This award-winning film brims over with stunning images of carnival play and a rich soundtrack of hot Cajun music. Cajun filmmaker Pat Mire gives us an inside look at the colorful, rural Cajun Mardi Gras. Every year before Lent begins, processions of masked and costumed revelers, often on horseback, go from house to house gathering ingredients for communal gumbos in communities across rural southwest Louisiana. The often-unruly participants in this ancient tradition play as beggars, fools, and thieves as they raid farmsteads and perform in exchange for charity or, in other words, “dance for a chicken.”

Japan Profile from the Sky Part 1: South to North
5.51
Mr. Tetsuo Yamaori, Professor (Religious History), National Museum of History and Folklore: It is now possible to see history from above. The Japanese archipelago, seen from 3,000 meters above the ground, stretches from Okinawa through the mainland to Hokkaido. It seems the beautiful coral reefs of the South Island clearly depict the sea route, and the huge mountain massif and wilderness in the northernmost part reflect the depth of climate and culture since the Jomon period in a panoramic view. The mountain surfaces of Takachiho, which forms the home of Japanese mythology, burns red, and Hidemine Fuji is expanding its base with a wild sense of volume. The illusion of a vast ancient city rises, and the old battlefields of the Sengoku period and castle towns of the early modern period pass through a time tunnel and come back to life one after another. Even so, what about the development of precise urban spaces that correspond to the miniaturization of rural areas?
