The acting is good, and the firecracker script has some excellent ideas.

Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

It is the story of a ghost(Marco) who seeks redemption(played by Naseeruddin Shah) from his past sins. For this, he entails the help of a young man Sunder(Shahrukh Khan).Naseeruddin Shah and Shahrukh Khan play their parts to perfection ably supported by Shammi Kapoor. Urmila Mantodkar was a disappointment though. The story suffers from many clichés(like Kunta discovering the stashed gold in his closet only twenty years after) though it remains funny(especially at the last in the cricket match). The movie is ably directed and executed. The songs are average. It's not a bad way to spend a couple of hours.

'Chamatkar' is a charming and delightful fantasy comedy. It tells the story of a ghost who has some unfinished business that he must fulfil with the help of a noble young teacher. It's his only chance to redeem himself of his past sins, to mend his relationship with his estranged daughter and father-in-law. The story isn't derived from a novel concept but 'Chamatkar' is treated with sincerity. Some may argue that the movie has a dated feel but for me it was fun to watch how people used to dress during the early 90s in India. I liked most of the songs but the fashion show sequence was unintentionally funny, especially how the backup dancers performed and the way they dressed. Naseeruddin Shah is fantastic as Marco the ghost. Who says this man can't do comedy? The same question can be asked about Shahrukh Khan and Urmila Matondkar. It was really great to see these three actors, whose comedic flair is underrated, work together and make something so funny. Khan is stupendous as the good hearted but gullible school teacher and Matondkar is adorable and vivacious as Marco's daughter and Sunder's girlfriend. They make quite a cute pair and I wonder why these two highly talented actors have never worked together again. Of the supporting cast, Shammi Kapoor stands out. 'Chamatkar' doesn't have the highly advanced special effects and style that could perhaps make it more visually appealing but that didn't bother me because there was plenty of other things that was enough to enjoy this movie.

Chamatkar means Magic. As the name suggests this movie is full of magical instances. Sunder a teacher by profession wanted to relocate to Dubai. He paid a money to a friend asking him to help him out. He travels to Mumbai to collect his ticket and passport. Reaching there he understands that he has been betrayed by his friend. Soon he is lost among all those crowds and the city. Hopelessly moving here and there he reaches a graveyard. There he meets the ghost of Marcos played by Naseer. Marcos wants his help to catch some killers who had killed him. With his help he gets a job as a coach in a college. Trustee of this college is the father-in-law of Marcos. All of them help Marcos to settle scores with his killers and moves to heaven.Though the film was a flop, but it was enjoyed a lot by peoples. Naseer & Shahrukh made a great pair in this movie. Urmila was so so. She needs a good director to show her skills. Watch Rangeela of RGV. Story is nice as well as songs. In all, this is a pleasant movie.
