It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.

Watch something else. There are very few redeeming qualities to this film.

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

Rating: 3/5 stars (Three-Stars)Star Cast: Sudeep, Nani , Samantha and the protagonist – A House fly!, Ajay Devgan (voiceover)What's Good: Imagination, inventiveness , inspite of its absurdities at times, Director Rajamouli is able to carve a hilarious tale out of a make believe world where logic is intertwined with fantasy, some great computer graphics and visualisation. What's Bad: The name itself maybe, the climax seems a bit extended.Loo Breaks: Few and far between in the first half . Close to none in the second, you would want to grab the scheming 'Makkhi' as it plots the downfall.Watch or Not: Not just for the kids, even the adults might want to have a look at least once at this piece. They just might end up rooting for the 'housefly' !Makkhi, a revenge story of Jani (Nani) who is head over heels in love with Bindu (Samantha), left only to be murdered by play boyish businessman Sudeep (Sudeep) . Jani then is reborn as a housefly on the path to revenge and tries his best to avenge his death. But would he be able to quench his thirst for Sudeep's blood, would he be able to reunite with Bindu, his love? or would he be quashed under one of the devious plans of Sudeep? On the surface, Makkhi looks like just another Southern flick on the piles that we catch every week on the idiot box, one that you might ignore but scratch and look beneath it and you get a refreshing Revenge flick after many years, so what if it's a rebirth tale , so what if the protagonist is just a housefly here ! For the common masses Humse Hai Muqabla , Dashavatram, Nayak and Robot have been perhaps the Southern movies they loved having a dekko at , this might be another one added to the kitty.Makkhi Review: Script Analysis Rebirth, well, it has been a tried and tested formula for ages , ever since we had Karz and Karan Arjun etc. But the revenge and rebirth gets a new angle as we witness it all from a housefly's point of view. So expect the fly to be smacked with a tennis ball, fall and come out of a sherbet, survive in a running drain , eagles flying all over and even shots of bullets and tantric vidya to name a few. Some brilliant thought process and visualisation, reservoirs of creativity unleashed here.Makkhi Review: Star Performances Sudeep as the womanizer, a business tycoon lynching at every gorgeous woman he eyes stands out from the rest. He has been hailed as the King of remakes in down south, using Tamil and Telugu titles to make it big in the Kannada cinema. However, here he has done his bit. As a devious money minded soul, he never thinks twice before enticing women to clinch deals or even killing his partners for profit. The only thing that stops him in his march though is a small, harmless housefly. He plays his part here and stands out from the rest of the cast. Jani doesn't have much of the role assigned to him however he does bring a smile or two in the initial half an hour. Samantha as Bindu is calm and composed in her role. She is in love but is too hesitant to tell him, her scenes with Nani add charm to the story. But the star here is the protagonist Makkhi who has been crafted with some exquisite and fine artistry by animators from around the globe.Makkhi Review: Direction, Music & Technical Aspects Director from south, S. S. Rajamoulli ,who earlier gave us Vikramarkudu and Maryada Ramana (Rowdy Rathore and Son of Sardar, the Hindi remakes) is back with his Telugu flick Eega dubbed into Makkhi . He is able to touch the heart of his audience just by the sheer brilliance with which he captivates the mind of the housefly here. The music best said is just the right mix here for such a movie, the track 'Are Are Are' by KK is a hummable ballad, stays with you. The title song is catchy too, though the entire soundtrack isn't for keeps. The screenplay and the VFX, Animation and computer graphics makes your chest swell up a bit that the film's after all made in India. The movie has about 2234 live Action Animation shots and around 90 minutes of the 137 minutes is animation based.Makkhi Review: The Last Word The movie deserves a 3* from my desk. A blend of Animation , VFX, visualisation and some great screenplay, 'Makkhi' is an art that's worked for Director Rajamoulli yet again. Definitely a must watch for the kids and Animation lovers. Not just for the kids, even the adults might want to have a look at least once at this piece. They just might end up rooting for the 'housefly' !There's even a Makkhi dance with the end credits, expect Salman Khan's towel dance and Ajay Devgan's Son Of Sardaar performance by this cheeky fly as you leave the theatre.

I saw this film at the Imagine (SF/horror/fantasy) film festival 2013 in Amsterdam. A lot of impossible things happen in this film, but the context is clear from the opening scene on, where we hear a persistent daughter asking her father to tell a bedtime story. It sets the tone for what follows: a fairy tale, with good and bad people, the good ones win in the end, the bad ones await what is coming for them, etcetera. The voices of father and daughter re-appear in the ending scene, to remind us that this was indeed a "Once upon a time" story from the start. Maybe the heads up is not really redundant, while all sort of things happen during the 2 hours in between.Basically, we see a proverbial David and Goliath story: a David-like (Nani) figure is killed by the Goliath-figure (Sudeep), all in the struggle for a woman (Bindu). But Nani reincarnates as a fly and makes it his business to haunt and annoy Sudeep at first, later on followed by real attempts to kill him. It is beautifully visualized, with a lot of animation where a fly is neatly integrated in the picture. In the first half hour (before the fly makes its/his appearance) I had the impression that the main characters were portrayed a bit over the top. Especially the bad guy (Sudeep), who usually gets any beautiful woman he wants, has to let go of Bindu who has set her eyes on neighbor Nani. Nani follows Bindu everywhere, but she waits 2 years before responding to his courting. When collecting funds for a school support project, Bindu is received by Sudeep who writes a cheque on first sight in favor of her charity, but also insists she has lunch with him. This is where the trouble starts. Bindu is apparently distracted when seeing Nani nearby during lunch, being an unusual experience for Sudeep. He "solves" this problem by killing Nani in a dark alley. Nani reincarnates as a fly, at which moment the animation kicks in.That is also the moment that the fairy tale atmosphere starts. Nani is determined to get his revenge. We see many impossible things happen during his actions. I'm not sure about some of them being physically possible for a fly, like carrying a needle many times its own weight. And the ominous writing on Sundeep's windshield looks also improbable. But who cares, since it fits the story line AND we can expect this in a fairy tale where the good win and the bad loose in the end, by whatever means available at the time. All in all, in spite of the simplistic story that one could have derived from the synopsis, the plot is worked out beautifully. The subsequent attempts of the fly to deal with Sundeep, are various and creative. At first, the fly works alone. Later on he finds a way to communicate with Bindu, and they start working together. But even then, many killing attempts fail. As a result, we get many opportunities to admire how the animation and the "real" characters work together. We also become aware that a fly lives a very dangerous life, feeling very vulnerable and defenseless against people who think flies are a menace to mankind. However, this special fly survives it all, of course inherent to a fairy tale that is designed to let the good ones win. The festival visitors (all 18+) gave this film an 8.07 score for the audience award, demonstrating that this movie is also interesting enough for adults.

First I let all you know that I am from a Hindi state (utter pradesh) where Bollywood rules But to be honest Bollywood is too idea less to be called a creative movie industry.Bollywood live on stealing from others from Hollywood , Pakistan , (almost from every part on earth) and now there is a trend to steal from Tamil and Telugu cinema .And the sad part is most of the people even never get to know that who was the original creator.some movies are gazani, roudy rauthor , bodygaurd , ready , and many more .Most of them are super hit in bollywood. And now Telugu cinema comes with this movie Eega (Makki in Hindi ) its like slapping Bollywood on its face. What Bollywood didn't able to do with its high budget , Superstardum , and wide area of viewership Telugu Cinema did it with limited resources ,budget and limited viewers Any telugu guy can tell you what a great risk was take to decide a movie in which the main character is a FLY. No offense But from past few years most of the telugu movies were also very formulatic in approach as a superman Hero , 1 or 2 heroins (for dance and songs) , a mastermind villain , some fight scenes and thats it .But this movie is a fresh air , well told story , nice comedy scenes , great special effects and CGIs . I recommend this movie for everyone and salute Rajamouli (director) for his great work ,

This is a truly astounding and humbling experience. Astounding because this blows apart all the expectations which the viewer may have before he sees it. The casual viewer will approach this with a very high degree of skepticism. A person who is killed by a gangster and is reborn as a fly to seek revenge. The story reeks of ridiculousness. However 10 minutes into it and you know you are in for the ride of your life. The ingenuity shown by the eponymous character in pursuing vengeance and the director in creating the scenes is breath taking. The scenes are created so perfectly. The confrontations between Eega(House fly in English) and the construction magnate villain (played superbly by Sudeep) are full of fun and will have you teetering on the edge of your seat. The CGI is world class and the watchers of the regular Indian fare will be totally delighted and amazed. The story is first rate. It is truly a pity that revolutionary movies like this are not sent for Oscar. This would have certainly raised the prestige of Indian cinema. This is an experience of a lifetime. Never believed i would be so moved by an Indian regional flick. 4.5 out of 5 for this lovable fly. Truly made my day. Very highly recommended.
