In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

What it's about: Chennai Express is about a rich forty-five-year-old bachelor, named Rahul, living in Mumbai. His parents were killed in a car accident when he was very young, so his grandparents took their role as guardians. Rahul gets invited to a friends vacation trip right before his grandfathers 100th birthday. However, Rahul's grandfather dies on the day of his birthday, while watching cricket. Soon after his death, Rahul's grandmother tells him that his grandfather wanted to be buried in two different places. One in Ganga and the other in Rameswaram. She asks Rahul to take the ashes with him to dump but comes to see him off. However, Rahul forgets to take the ashes and almost misses his train when he tries to get the ashes back. But as he tries to leave he helps a woman and four men board the train causing him to miss his chance to get off. Rahul finds out that the women, Meena, was being chased by the four men( who happen to be goons of Meenas powerful father). Meena tells her father when the goons return her to her father along with Rahul that they are in love and plan to get married. Along their journey to deceive her father they fall in love and get married. This Hindi film was quite intriguing to me, a newcomer to foreign films. What's good: For a person new to Hindi films, Chennai Express definitely raised my opinion towards them. It had many scenes that could be attributed to a typical Hollywood comedy film, such as action, minor drama scenes, big star cast, and the well known big finale car crashes. I also enjoyed how the film starts with a flashback of Rahul and is narrated by him as well narrated by him as well. The acting was astonishing and enthusiastic. Overall Chennai Express is a movie that is meant to bring a smile to your face with its singing, dancing, and many melodramatic scenes.

One of my favorite movies. After watching this magnificent film, I immediately went over to my friend's house just to show him the brilliance that is Chennai Express. I love how what could have been a very sad plot line of a man spreading his grandfather's ashes, was transformed into an entertaining, comedic, action-filled, love story. This movie has everything that a movie should have. Just when you are thinking that the movie is getting a bit slow, something drastic happens to re-engage you in the film. One of my favorite scenes is the final fight scene. I really enjoyed how there was tons of slow motion action that made the punches and kicks way more dramatic. In the final fight, Rahul defeats a ton of weaker guys in order to gain the ability to fight what I perceived to be the "final boss." This final fight is divided up into two different fights one before Rahul is knocked out and the one after he regains consciousness and begin to fight again with his second wind. His love for Meenamma is what pushes him through to eventually defeat Tangaballi and win Meenamma as his wife.

Prior to watching this film, I had never seen a full Bollywood movie. It was quite different from American films, but I loved it. The whole movie had a lighthearted, positive vibe to it. A lot of slow motion was used to add drama to many scenes along with various camera angles to give the viewer the feeling that they were involved in the scenes with the actors. There were a lot of musical scenes with singing and dancing which were very entertaining. It was impressive how the actors could sing, dance, and act. I loved seeing all the traditional Indian clothes and dances. Rahul's character development over time was very interesting to watch as he grew from a self centered man to one who was willing to risk his life for Meena. Their love story was adorable. This was probably one of my favorite global films that I have seen so far. Overall, I would give this movie 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Not as bad as the recent Dilwale(the WORST movie ever!!!) but to be frank when was the last time SRK made a quality movie. Chak de India was a long time ago and he actually proved he could act but apparently doesn't want to. This is pure entertainment, very funny, not realistic and totally overacted in short a typical SRK film. I spent over two hours just thinking of nothing, laughing out loud, enjoying lovely scenery, unbelievable story line, great chemistry and the charm that oozes out of the lead actors... Sometimes it's just what you need after a hard day's work. Mindless fun! And that's why SRK is the King of Bollywood! Amir Khan makes excellent movies but doesn't offer the kind of escapism this movie does! The music is forgettable aside from background music which is lovely and stays in your head a long time after the movie is over.
