Manitou's Shoe (2001)

In other words,this film is a surreal ride.

The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.

By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.

this movie and the other movie of director and actor michael "bully" herbig are fantastic!I have'not seen the English version and i'm not sure in what way the translation made it less funny,but the idea to make a comedy-western movie where the cowboy and the Indian have bavarian accents is one-of-a-kind,don't you think? OK, the plot is nothing special,nothing really new,but who says that it can't be a funny movie? bully really shows how much worth the details and the little jokes are. As well Manitou's shoe is an example for individual,creative characters such as the old fashioned Indian,hanging on to old traditions which have no actual use at all,the gay twin brother with his beauty-spa in the middle of the desert,the white "greenhorn",who represents the typical macho cowboy but who also doesn't seem to belong in a western movie at all.And we can't forget Dimitri,the Greek exchange Indian.All in all "bully" did an amazing job on this movie.i can imagine,being producer, director and actor of two different twin brothers,one of them gay,is definitely a challenge. I am German,and i agree that we produce a lot of... mmh let's say not so good movies,but we can be great!watch it,you will have fun...

This was for me a warm experience overall, made me laugh at some points, but due to questionable translation and subtitle confusion(English subtitles, over them Slovenian subtitles), most word and 'punchline' jokes didn't get through to me. I got some fun out of situational comedy (like a spot where Winnetouch is giving out a scary scream seeing a skeleton and the light goes out, and he is thankful for that), the character comedy (Winnetouch/the black cowboy), and the many references to past cinematography, of which I liked most references to Sergio Leone / Clint Eastwood in a commercial-inside-a-film like fashion.I was disappointed with the story which is neither non-existent, neither interesting, some weak 'Hotshots'-like comedy and the fact I knew I could have more fun if I'd only had paid more attention at those German classes in my school... ah well.6/10

An absolutely pathetic attempt at comedy coming from Germany. Boring stock characters and situations are combined with jokes that maybe were funny in the 1960s or 70s. The idea with the Bavarian accents isn't new. The acting and the direction are decent at best. I must admit I think that there is always something sick about Bully Herwig that I can't really put my finger on. He definitely has problems imho. What is especially annoying about this comedy is the way it excessively exploits stereotypes or myths about homosexual men to create humour. Why this movie has been such a success is beyond me, maybe Mr. Herwig just has found out what the true nature of German humour is. Or maybe most people just watched it because the press said it's good and it was better than some other even more pathetic comedy movies from Germany.

My friends told me about the film over and over again, and though I normally don't enjoy comedies, there were some I liked: Hot Shots and Naked Gun are films I like, Mr. Bean is a great actor in his films, Jim Carrey is a guy who makes me laugh, and Bully (Michael Herbig) in some cases should do it also. As I knew Bully from his TV-appearances very well, I wonder why this film is simply boring with a story, not being very funny. Michael "Bully" Herbig is a very good comedian, and some of his TV-Partners from "Bully-Parade", that is popular in Germany, are greater in other roles than this film.The jokes are old, the actors not at their best and the idea, to make a film of a small part of the "Bully-Parade" has probably worked in Germany, but many jokes cannot be translated, because of the idiomatic expressions.My remote control came into reach the more the film went on.In my opinion the film is overrated, 2/10 is all I can give.
