.Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

I borrowed the DVD of this movie from my public library and saw it yesterday evening. I did not have high expectations, I assumed it would be just another silly romantic comedy. However, it turned out better than expected, and I was able to watch and enjoy the whole thing to the end.Obviously, this is a fairy tale, what actually happened is that the two princesses were allowed out in a group of 16 that left at 10 PM and returned at 1 AM, with none of the ridiculous and preposterous shenanigans of the movie. But it is better than your average 'romantic comedy" which I usually borrow, watch for 5 minutes, and if it is unbearably lame, I put it back in the box and return it.The plot is, of course, preposterous, and while Margaret was the wild one and her antics might be expected, Elizabeth's behavior was most unrealistic. Also very unrealistic and inaccurate were the choices of the young actresses playing the two princesses, esp. the one playing Elizabeth, who looked little like the actress playing her (eye color, build etc)If the scriptwriter, director and esp the producer made some effort towards realism, I'd give it an 8. As is, a 7.

This fictional account tallies with the characters of the Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret (the only member of the royal family I have seen in person) in wonderful detail (Lilibet is the name Elizabeth gave herself as a very small child--listen to George VI say it, with his stuttering problem). What a night Victory in Europe must have been! It is an amalgam of Odyssey, Pink Panther, and a Chekhov play. The characters go through a unique combination of experiences on a unique night which leaves them with a new perspective on life and how they fit into it. Meg's great oblivious question near the end is worth repeating (she asks George VI and the Queen Mother "What's a knocking shop?") You know when the moment arrives for Lizzie to assert her command as the future queen. A marvelous picture worth seeing more than once!

I didn't expect to love this movie as much as I did. i didn't hear anyone talk about it so it wasn't really on my radar. I gave it a shot and was surprised by just how much I loved it. This is a well made and acted movie, there are a lot of reasons to love it. But my personal interests also influence how much I like it. I love movies about royalties, I love movies set in this time period, and I also love it when movies span over just one day or night. So yeah…this movie was made for me. Definitely one of my favorite movies of the year. It's official, the war is won by the Allied. The whole of Britain is celebrating. Exceptionally Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret are allowed to go out and join the party. It evolves into a whirlwind of a night for the Princesses with excitement, danger, romance and a lot of un-allowed fun.I basically loved everything about this movie. The story is light and fun, but not dumb. The fact that the people, time and setting is real enhances the story. The events are said to be based on a true story, but i'm not sure how much of it is real. But that doesn't really matter to me. The story was fast-paced, especially for a movie set in just one day/night. I loved that upbeat kinda feeling it reminded me of going out and partying all night, moving from one place to the next out on the town, it fit perfectly. The soundtrack enhanced the upbeat pace. With fun celebration type music that fit the time and place perfectly. It was very important for this movie to work that we feel the time-period and the happy victory of the day. This whole atmosphere was built fantastically through the music, the sets and the costume design. The acting was amazing. We see some older established actors like Rupert Everett and Emily Watson. But also some very exciting up and coming actors like Sarah Gadon and Bel Powley. The dynamic between the actors was good. The 'love interest' was played by Jack Reynor, not only is the guy incredibly handsome, he and Sarah Gadon had great chemistry. I loved the bitter-sweet ending to their amazing night together. This was one of those movies where you want to follow the characters around, you actually like them and it's just fun to see their amazing night. This movie was great. I encourage everyone to watch it! I took a while before giving it a rating. I waited to see if the movie would stick with me. After a while I was still thinking about this movie and it still gave me good feelings when thinking about it. So I thought the 9/10 was very well deserved! Seriously, not enough people are talking about this flick. It deserves many more viewers and fans. Do yourself a favor and watch this movie, I bet you're gonna love it!

Not exactly of course, but then again this might not accurate on how things went down either. Depicting historical figures and a historical event (end of WWII, British crown and so forth) might not be something people are too interested to watch. But then if you like a feel good movie overall and a fish out of water story (loyalty mixing it up with common folk), then you might be right here.Having said that, there is still some tough issues that want to be answered, but even when this gets darker, it never loses focus on the lightness that makes it work. So this isn't too critical or too dramatic, but it is entertaining, while being predictable in giving us the clichés we expect. Having said, costumes and settings are generally good and the acting is decent too
